# About Parrot

as_of: 2026-10-22

Parrot is free data on mention markets: prediction markets on whether a speaker will say a word ([how they work](/mention-markets)). Kalshi and Polymarket have listed about 5,400 mention events since mid-2024, each with a list of words, on earnings calls, the Fed, the White House, politics, TV, podcasts and sports.

So far Parrot has 91,511 settled word markets from 5,500 events, for 1,135 people, companies and shows, and 11,462 transcripts.

## Mission

Democratize data intelligence. The facts behind a mention market are public, but they sit in hours of video, scattered transcripts and venue rulebooks. Parrot puts them on one page and behind one API call, for free.

## What you get

- **Transcripts or short quotes,** depending on each source's rights: full text for public-domain and openly licensed records, quotes of at most 25 words otherwise, with speakers labelled. Official records first; captions or speech recognition where no record exists.
- **Word history.** How often a speaker said a word over their last appearances, and how past markets on that word settled.
- **Counts under each venue's rules.** Kalshi and Polymarket often count different speakers. Parrot counts each market under its own venue's rule.
- **Accuracy in public.** We check our counts against settled markets and list every mismatch on [Accuracy](/accuracy).
- **Agent access.** A compact API, an MCP server and [llms.txt](/llms.txt). Answers are sized for agents: a brief answer stays under 3.2 KB; longer events page the rest with `offset=`.

Market prices are a secondary layer. They sit behind the Markets switch, which is off by default.

## Free

Parrot is free and needs no account. Fair-use limits apply; see [API](/api-guide). Free keys raise the limits. You may query Parrot and build tools and agents on it within the rate limits. Parrot's own data (counts, rates, settlement history, probabilities and QA results) is licensed under [CC BY 4.0](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/): credit "parrot.markets" with a link. Transcripts, quotes and media are not covered: their rights stay with each source (see [Sources](/sources)).

## Who runs it

Parrot is run by Bernard Huang.

People who run Parrot trade on Kalshi and Polymarket, including mention markets. The rules we follow because of that are on [Disclosure](/disclosure).

## What Parrot is not

- **Not a venue.** Parrot offers no trading and takes no orders.
- **Not advice.** See [Disclaimer](/disclaimer).
- **Not the settlement authority.** Kalshi and Polymarket settle their own markets. When our count and a settlement differ, the venue's result stands and we list the case on [Accuracy](/accuracy).
- **Not affiliated** with Kalshi, Polymarket, or any speaker, show, team or company listed.
